Governor Jay Inslee declares June 19, 2020 "Juneteenth" in a ceremonial declaration! Read the original 6/5/2020 announcement from BUILD below. For the Black Community, June brings with it a historic day also known as Freedom Day. It was on June 19, 1865, over 2 years after President Lincoln issued the emancipation proclamation, that word reached the last remaining slaves in Texas. In these painful times receiving good news is a necessity. BUILD is excited to announce a historic event: Governor Jay Inslee announced June 19, 2020 as Juneteenth. Attached [below] is the ceremonial declaration for all to see.
