The topic of discussion: Latino Leadership Network Location: Online (to register see below) Date: May 5th, 2021 Time: 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM Facilitator: Abby Chavez and Tony Griego Background: LLN is a business resource group that strives to provide Latinos and their allies in state government a place where they feel a sense of community, learn new things that help them in their professions, and meet other fellow Latino state workers. During this Lunch and Learn Abby and Tony will cover a number of Latino topics of interest to state HR practitioners. Facilitators:
Abby Chavez Abby Chavez is a first-generation college graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a Masters in Finance. With almost seven years in state service as an auditor and more than 10 years as a banker in the private sector, she has a wealth of experience in areas such as accounting, finance, and compliance. Her mission in life has been to help others with similar upbringings and struggles that she saw firsthand growing up. Throughout her life, she has helped others in the Latino community with translation, interpreting complex legal documents, and building resumes. Abby’s favorite way of celebrating her Mexican heritage is through the family traditions of making tamales at Christmas time with her mom, sister, and two daughters. Tony Griego Tony Griego describes himself as a data nerd (his son just calls him a nerd). He has over ten years of state service, but began his dedication to community service as a Boy Scout at age eleven. Over the last decade, Tony has lead development of agency-wide strategies. Currently, Tony leads the Equity and Inclusion Office at the Department of Licensing. He uses his data and analysis background to identify disparities and collaborate on solutions. His dream is to open the doors of opportunity for others. Tony's goal is to grow representation of Latinos and people of color in government. Tony loves to celebrate his Latino heritage with a big plate of his Tia Esther's chile verde and family reunions in Colorado.
