Please attend our next Lunch and Learn session: The topic of discussion: The Equity Filter Location: Online (More Information Below) Date: February 17th, 2021 Time: 12:00-1:00 pm Facilitator: Leilani Williams Background
The “equity filter” is a decision-making tool she co-designed with other contributors at all levels of the organization. The idea came from the work Northwest Harvest did with mentors at the Center for Equity & Inclusion. The equity filter encourages people to slow-down and get in the practice of asking thoughtful questions to avoid causing unintentional harm to BIPOC communities and others. In this session you can expect to familiarize yourself with a more concrete tool for institutionalizing inclusive methods of problem solving in your own organization. Facilitator: Leilani Williams Leilani spent her earliest years in Fiji before moving to Tacoma, WA, when she was five years old. She has deep love for both the place and the people who inhabit the south shores of Puget Sound as well as those across the ocean in Fiji. She has been working at Northwest Harvest since 2016 and currently serves as Equity and Inclusion Senior Manager. She helped lead the agency’s bottom-up approach to racial equity, first as a volunteer and co-chair of the employee Equity Committee, and now as a member of the organization’s leadership team. She has led efforts to transform both individual perceptions as well as institutional policies to advance anti-racist thinking, action, and culture at Northwest Harvest.
