Unpermitted Events/Activity, Rallies in the Oly Area

7/7/2020

Capitol Security & Visitor Services (CSVS) continues to track and monitor a series of events (non-permitted) and other activity impacting Downtown Olympia and the Capitol Campus. Where possible, CSVS had been reaching out to all event organizers that wish to come on campus to hold an event or activity and inform them the event will be non-permitted and unauthorized due to the “Safe Start Washington” recovery plan.
When events can again be held on campus, CSVS is eager to work with event participants. While we are not issuing permits for events, we are aware of the following event(s) which may occur as non-permitted events:
  • July 11th, 2020:
    • 2:00pm – 5:00pm – State Capital March. Information available indicates the gathering will be starting at Woodruff Park (1500 Harrison Ave NW, Olympia) and march to the Capitol Campus.
  • July 12th, 2020:
    • 11:00am – 4:00pm – Witches United Against Oppression March with a rally to be held at Heritage Park. CSVS had reached out to event organizer(s).
  • (PLEASE NOTE) Unknown Timeframe:
    • Given recent history, potential for protests to occur in the late evening within Downtown Olympia, West Campus, or campus parks.

West Campus roads will continue to remain closed until further notice as a safety precaution.  Please utilize and communicate with staff that Sid Snyder will be the entry and exit point for authorized employees working on the West Campus.  CSVS in conjunction with WSP continues to work with Olympia Police Department & Olympia Fire Department on communication and coordination support.  DES will also be sending out additional campus communications regarding these unpermitted events, which will include notification to the South Capitol Neighborhood.

CSVS continues to be on site working with the WSP to help provide a safe environment for campus tenants/visitors.
